It may not be cool to admit that I sat and watched the Eurovision song contest last night, but I had to make a comment about what a wonderful evenings entertainment it was. Admittedly, most of the entertainment came from Terry Wogan’s magnificent commentary rather than the performers themselves. He is proof that there are still some living legends within the BBC, as he illustrated that with the right person on the microphone any crap can be put on telly and made entertaining. He could make a high school talent competition a national viewing event – but lets face facts, there’s more talent in a high school stage show than there is in the Eurovision. There were points where my face was aching from laughing as he verbally ripped the entire event to shreds! However, on the subject of entertainment, will anyone else admit to wishing for Finland’s entry to win from the moment they came out on stage? As the points racked up for them I was nearly wetting myself! Finally, someone has put some blood and balls into the competition and done something original, or maybe Finland just took the piss so well and truly that no-one could resist voting for them. Either way, roll on the arockalypse, I can’t wait to see what happens next year!
